What is the difference between rigid boxes and folding cartons?

Rigid boxes are constructed from thick greyboard (1.5–3.0mm) and maintain a fixed, non-collapsible structure. Folding cartons are made from thinner paperboard (0.3–0.6mm) and ship flat, requiring assembly.Key DifferencesStructure: Rigid boxes are solid and non-collapsible; folding cartons fold flat for storagePerceived value: Rigid boxes convey premium luxury; folding cartons feel standardProtection: Rigid boxes offer superior shock absorption during shippingCost: Rigid boxes cost 3–8× more per unit due to materials and hand assemblyProduction: Rigid boxes require skilled handcraft; folding cartons use automated linesCustomization: Rigid boxes support more premium finishes (foil stamping, embossing, magnetic closures)When to choose rigid boxes: For luxury products, gift sets, high-value items, and brands where unboxing experience directly impacts customer perception and loyalty. When to choose folding cartons: For cost-sensitive products, high-volume retail packaging, e-commerce shipping boxes, and products where packaging is primarily functional rather than experiential. For brands that want the rigid box feel with better shipping economics, DHP also offers foldable rigid boxes that combine premium presentation with flat-pack shipping efficiency. Do I need to outline the fonts in my artwork?

Yes. Please make sure all text is converted to outlines (Create Outlines) before sending the file. This prevents any unexpected font changes or layout shifts during the printing process, especially if we don’t have the same fonts installed.

How thick should the greyboard be if to make a rigid box?

Usually we use 1~3mm rigid greyboard to make rigid box, 2mm is the most common used thickness.

How can I customize my logo?

Your logo can be printed with CMYK or Pantone. Gold foil, embossing/debossing, spot UV, silk printing and so on can be used to highlight your logo as well.

What is the difference between digital printing sample and offset printing sample?

Digital printing is used for small run box making, offset printing is used for mass order production. And usually offset printing sample has better and more accurate colors than digital printing.

Can I have it printed on both the inside and outside of the box?

Yes, absolutely. You can customize the printing surfaces. Whether you need full-color printing, spot colors, patterns, or branded messaging on the inside, our production team will review your artwork and ensure the final printed result matches your vision. If you have specific design effects in mind—such as reverse printing, spot UV, metallic foil, or specialty finishes—we can also accommodate those to enhance the overall presentation of your packaging.

What finishing options are available for luxury packaging?

Luxury packaging can be finished in two main ways: visual impact (how it looks) and tactile protection (how it feels and holds up). Popular premium options include:1. Foil Stamping (Hot Foil): Adds metallic shine for logos, borders, and patterns—great for “high-end” brand cues.2.Embossing / Debossing: Creates raised or recessed texture for logos and details, making the box feel more premium in-hand.3.Lamination (Matte or Gloss): Improves scuff resistance and color richness; matte is especially popular for luxury looks.4.Soft-Touch Lamination / Coating: A velvety, “suede-like” feel that signals premium quality and enhances the unboxing experience.5.Anti-scratch / Fingerprint-resistant films: Practical upgrades for dark colors and frequently handled gift boxes.
